A toothache is a term for any pain felt within or around a tooth. There are many reasons why you might have a toothache, and none of them should be ignored.

A toothache often means that the nerve endings in your mouth have been damaged in some way. The nerves in your teeth are found in the innermost part of your tooth, a conglomeration of soft tissue called the pulp. Pulp damage can be caused by a multitude of sources. Jaw related issues such as TMJ disorder or bruxism are known to cause toothaches as well. If you have lost or cracked a tooth due to a violent blow, you will almost definitely experience pain in that area.

Your toothache may be accompanied by a facial rash, high fevers, swelling, and chills. You can treat your toothache with aspirin, ibuprofen, and ice packs. If you continue to experience pain after 24 hours, call our dentist.
