There are unfortunate times when dental avulsion, cavities on multiple teeth, or complications from chronic periodontal disease can cause the loss of multiple teeth. When this happens, there are several options available for replacing or restoring the presence and function of your multiple missing teeth. Dr. Michael Woody can help you explore your options and find the one that is right for you at his Carthage, Missouri, clinic.

For some people, a removable partial denture can help address some of these issues. At the same time, some people feel that the dental appliance simply doesn’t replicate the same strength and feel of the original teeth. It can also come with increased irritation of the gums if food particles frequently invade the base of the partial.

For a more permanent dental restoration, Dr. Michael Woody will often recommend having a bridge mounted onto two dental implants. This is essentially two titanium abutments that are surgically inserted into the underlying bone structure in that area of your mouth. Then it is topped with a dental bridge.

The two implants can be installed in a single outpatient appointment where you will need to be deeply sedated. This means you will need to arrange to have a friend or family member drive you and help you at home afterward.

As time goes by, the abutments will gradually bond with the surrounding bone tissues in a process known as osseointegration. Once this has been achieved, Dr. Michael Woody will take an impression of the area to start the process of fitting you for a standard bridge.
